Transcriptional regulation in eukaryotic ribosomal protein genes.
Understanding ribosomal protein gene regulation provides a good avenue for understanding gene regulatory networks. Even after 5 decades of research on ribosomal protein gene regulation, little is known about how higher eukaryotic ribosomal protein genes are coordinately regulated at the transcriptional level. However, a few recent papers shed some light on this complicated problem.
متن کاملTranscriptional regulation constrains the organization of genes on eukaryotic chromosomes.
Genetic material in eukaryotes is tightly packaged in a hierarchical manner into multiple linear chromosomes within the nucleus. Although it is known that eukaryotic transcriptional regulation is complex and requires an intricate coordination of several molecular events both in space and time, whether the complexity of this process constrains genome organization is still unknown. Here, we prese...
متن کاملPromoter architecture and transcriptional regulation of Abf1-dependent ribosomal protein genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, ribosomal protein gene (RPG) promoters display binding sites for either Rap1 or Abf1 transcription factors. Unlike Rap1-associated promoters, the small cohort of Abf1-dependent RPGs (Abf1-RPGs) has not been extensively investigated. We show that RPL3, RPL4B, RPP1A, RPS22B and RPS28A/B share a common promoter architecture, with an Abf1 site upstream of a conserved el...

Inflammation is an adaptive mechanism to insure restoration of tissue and cell homeostasis after injury, infection or stress. The inflammatory response leads to differential recruitment of immune cells in organs, as well as cell-specific modifications by inflammation-induced signaling pathways. All these inflammatory-specific changes establish celland lineage-context dependent gene expression p...
متن کاملEukaryotic Transcriptional Regulation: From Data Mining to Transcriptional Profiling
Cis-acting transcriptional regulatory elements in mammalian genomes typically contain specific combinations of binding sites for various transcription factors. Although some cis-regulatory elements have been well studied, the combinations of transcription factors that regulate normal expression levels for the vast majority of the 20,000 genes in the human genome are unknown. We hypothesized tha...
